NHTSA Campaign Number: 17V-582 Manufacturer: Ford Motor Company Component: SERVICE BRAKES, HYDRAULIC:POWER ASSIST:VACUUM Summary: Ford Motor Company (Ford) is recalling certain 2016-2017 Ford Expedition, Lincoln Navigator, and 2016-2018 F-150 vehicles equipped with 3.5L Ecoboost engines. The brake master cylinder may allow brake fluid to leak from the front wheel circuit into the brake booster. Consequence: A brake fluid leak in the brake booster can cause a gradual loss of brake fluid, illumination of the brake warning lamp, and longer than expected stopping distances, increasing the risk of a crash. Remedy: Ford will notify owners, and dealers will inspect the brake master cylinder and replace as necessary, free of charge. The recall began February 15, 2018. Owners may contact Ford customer service at 1-866-436-7332. Ford's number for this recall is 17S41. Affected Vehicles: Vehicles built at Kentucky Truck Plant from May 1, 2015 through August 31, 2017. Technical Service Bulletin: TSB 17-2379 Notes: Owners may also contact the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration Vehicle Safety Hotline at 1-888-327-4236 (TTY 1-800-424-9153), or go to www.safercar.gov. Owners may contact the manufacturer directly for any additional technical details...

What's going on
There's a part that controls how your brakes work, and it can develop a leak over time. You might notice your brake pedal feels softer than usual or sinks closer to the floor when you press it.
Why that's dangerous
Your car won't stop as quickly, especially in emergencies. In a worst case, your front brakes could stop working entirely.
How Ford fixes it (free)
The dealer swaps out the faulty part completely. Takes about an hour. Parts and labor are free — you pay nothing.
Exactly what to ask for

Frequently Asked Questions

Got a question? We've got answers.

What does RecallRover do?
You enter a 17-digit VIN. We pull the live recall list for that VIN from NHTSA, run a quick AI summary of each campaign, and return it to you in an easy-to-read report.
Where do I find my VIN?
The easiest spot is the lower-left corner of your windshield — look through the glass from outside and you'll see a small metal plate with 17 characters. You can also find it on the driver-side door jamb sticker, your vehicle registration card, or your insurance documents. On motorcycles, check the steering neck or the frame near the engine.
Should I search by VIN or year/make/model?
We support both, but VIN is more precise. Recalls are issued at the trim, engine, and production-date level — not just the model. Two cars with the same year and model can have completely different recall lists depending on where and when they were built. Your VIN encodes the exact plant, drivetrain, and options package, so the results are specific to your vehicle, not a generic list. A year/make/model search returns recalls across all trims, so you might see items that don't actually apply to your car — which can lead to a frustrating dealership visit when the service desk tells you your vehicle isn't covered. If you don't have your VIN handy, year/make/model is a great starting point, but we recommend following up with a VIN search before scheduling any service.
Is this another one of those sneaky subscription services?
Nope. RecallRover was designed to be subscription-free to make this service stand out from other major companies that provide similar information. One payment, one report.
What exactly do I get for $13.95?
Full list of all recalls for your VIN, jargon-free summary of each recall, what can really happen if you ignore it, exact fix needed without unnecessary costs, step-by-step instructions for the dealer, and pro tips to avoid upsells and hidden fees.
How long does it take to get a report?
Typical turnaround is less than one minute after you hit "Search for Recalls."
Do you support motorcycles, RVs, or older cars?
Any vehicle made after 1981 with a 17-digit VIN that appears in NHTSA's database is supported.
What does it cost to repair a recall?
$0. Federal law requires automakers to fix safety recalls at no charge, parts and labor. If you are charged for a recall repair, file a report with the NHTSA or call 1-888-327-4236.
Do you store or resell my VIN?
The VIN is stored only inside our database so we can deliver the report. It is not sold or shared with advertisers, insurers, or data-broker services.
My VIN shows zero recalls. Could that be wrong?
It can happen if the automaker issued a service bulletin instead of a formal recall. Those bulletins are not in the NHTSA feed, so always double-check with a dealer if you suspect an issue.
How often should I re-check a VIN?
New recalls can appear years after a vehicle is sold. We suggest running a fresh check every six months or before any long trip.
What's the story behind RecallRover?
